I know what you all must be thinking, it is amazing, isn’t it?
The best part is the technology that is used to build it. I’m sure Kindle is made with a sheer passion to deliver the best reading experience to all the readers in the world.
Kindle uses electronic ink to show text on the screen. The technology is amazing in itself. This technology was first developed in Oct 1996 by MIT undergraduates. The technology has evolved over time and is being used rigorously in multiple devices and kindle oasis is one of that.
In this article, I’m going to list down the features and explain you in depth about the technology and make you want it right now. I will be talking about the best in class new Kindle Oasis E-Reader.
Features
These are the highlight features of Kindle Oasis (new edition to Kindle devices):

- Waterproof: Under 2mt of fresh water for 60 minutes.

- Single Charge lasts for week.
- Instant Access: new releases and bestsellers, or from over a million titles at $2.99 or less. Prime members read free with unlimited access to over a thousand titles.
These are the basic features that are listed on every website related to Oasis. Let’s take down each feature and learn about it in advance before putting your money into buying one.
Display
Oasis has the largest display ever offered by any Kindle device. It comes with 7” highest resolution display (300 pixels per inch) with LEDs.
Wait… Kindle e-readers come with e-ink, right? Then what it has to with the LED :/
Well, Oasis comes with the surface LEDs light which enables you to read in the dark. The LEDs are made just to put light on the screen’s surface so that you can read without any external light. This feature is not currently available with the new entry-level Kindle e-reader. This still uses e-ink to display text on the screen.
What is E-Ink and How does it work?
E-Ink is a technology which consists a capsule about the thickness of a human hair. This capsule contains black and white pigments. Black being negatively charged and white being positively charged. These pigments are separated by some kind of liquid which enables pigments to stay intact and move freely across the capsule.
The surface is responsible for controlling the display of the screen. When a surface is made negative, it repels all the black pigments away from it to the surface of the screen. And that is when you see black text on the screen. When the surface is made positive it repels white pigments to the surface and that’s when you see the bright screen.
Here’s is a video that explains it…
LEDs do not strain your eyes
LEDs are designed in such a way that it only pours light on the surface of the screen. Light does not come out of the screen as it does with your smartphones, rather, the light is put on the screen. It is similar to the situation where you put light on the book with an external torch. As light does not come out of the screen, your eyes are free from strain.
Display does not compromise your sleep
As studies have shown that blue light emitted from your smartphones may disrupt your sleep. As your brain commands your body to produce melatonin ( a hormone which is responsible for a good sleep) when it is time for sleep. Your smartphones stop or slow down the production of melatonin as it confuses the brain to think it’s daytime. Meaning – your brain will stop producing melatonin and it would be hard for you to sleep.
With kindle oasis that is not the case. As the light is not barged inside your retina, in fact, the light is poured on the screen which then reflects and makes the text visible to your eyes. It is all natural and safe, just like reading a real book at night. On the contrary, reading at night is believed to be a good habit, as it slows down your brain process and helps your body to rest.
The First Waterproof Kindle
The oasis takes a step forward and allows you to read underwater 😀
Kidding? the new kindle oasis is waterproof which enables you to read in almost every condition. No matter where you are, now you can read while enjoying the waves at the beach. The kindle oasis is built to take that splash of water.
You can now read while you are in a swimming pool. The kindle oasis has taken the reading experience to the whole new level. It is very durable which makes it a perfect partner for your adventurous trips.
The New Kindle Oasis Comes With Audible
You must be wondering what is the new Audible buzz. Audible is a subscription-based service which offers thousands of audiobooks on a monthly subscription basis. Amazon has made a tie-up with audible to offer all the audiobooks free to oasis users once they have become the amazon prime members. You can read more about Audible here.
The new kindle oasis has an audio feature which enables you to connect your Bluetooth headset wirelessly. The feature is new in oasis and it seems to be very promising as the popularity of audiobooks and podcasts are growing every minute.
Audiobooks are boon for someone like me who is in constant motion and do not find much time to sit quietly and read. As more and more bloggers like Darren Rowse has started their podcasts which means I can download their podcast and store it in the Oasis.
Enhanced Software Features
X-Ray Feature
This is a new feature that I heard of in Kindle Oasis. The new x-ray feature as the name suggests, Let’s you explore the Bones of the book. What it means by Bones of the Book is all the main highlights of the book. It lets you see all the passages in the book that mentions relevant ideas, fictional characters, historical places or topic of interests.
I was amazed to see this feature at first. I mean, it is next generation AI. But the truth is, this feature is not some intelligent AI but offered as a metadata along with certain books. This feature is not available with all the book. Only the books which provide additional meta-data about its passages, highlights, characters are shown in the X-ray.
All and all, I did not find this feature that useful because I believe in reviews. I thoroughly review the book by its readers and I rely too much on GoodReads to select my next book. However, if you are an avid reader who knows about the book just by reading the highlights then this feature will be helpful for you.
Instant Lookups While You Read
The kindle oasis comes with smart integration feature that helps you to gather information about a particular word, character or definitions without losing your place. It smartly integrates Wikipedia, the new Oxford Dictionary and it’s new X-Ray feature to bring this information right at your fingertips.
I really found this feature interesting because now I do not have to leave my place to find about something that blocks me to read further. It is all at one place and available to me at a blazing fast speed.
Know How Long It Takes To Finish The Chapter
I really found this feature very very interesting and helpful. The Kindle Oasis has a built-in feature to keep track of your reading speed. It is like your personal assistant who keeps track of your reading speed. This way you can always find out how much it is left for you to complete a chapter.
How is this helpful for me?
I’m not a sort of guy who gets a lot of free time. Somewhere or the other, people, friends or work find me. Therefore, when I’m in a middle of a chapter, I would want to finish it before getting up. It is called the Zeigarnik Effect and it kicks in when your brain reaches a key step in the process of completing a task, in my case, completing a chapter. Unless and until I complete what I have started, my brain sends me annoying signals throughout the day. Therefore, I must know how much time is it left for me to complete the chapter that I’m about to start.
That is how it helps me. It helps me to plan ahead for a few minutes and that helps 🙂
Kindle Unlimited
With this feature, you can read millions of books at free of cost. Well, not free of cost, you just have to pay an upfront subscription fee of $9.99 to Amazon and you will get access to an Unlimited number of ebooks. Well, this feature is available on all kindle device.
WiFi or WiFi + Free Cellular Connectivity
Wifi, we are all aware of wifi connectivity. You are on the network, you are connected. Kindle Oasis provides free cellular connectivity to all its users. Amazon pays for your network charges for the lifetime. Amazon supports over 100 countries with free cellular connectivity. There is a strong possibility that Amazon will support this feature in your country.
It enables you to share text or snippets from your Kindle device from anywhere. Free Cellular connectivity can help you download ebooks, audio files and even exchange it with your friends.
It works just like your smartphone on a cellular network. The only difference is that Amazon pays for the service on your behalf. This is a really important offering as you cannot always be in some wifi network but you can always connect to a cellular network. That is what Amazon has done for the Kindle users.
