Hello Readers!!! I have been planning to write this article (Top 5 Indian movies every American must watch) for a long time.
With so much crap in Bollywood, it has become really difficult for an outsider to differentiate good movies from the bad ones. And I really don’t want to portrait the bad side of Bollywood. In fact, Bollywood has produced some of the best movies of all time.
Also, it’s my FARZ to keep them updated 😀
In this article, I will list down the top 5 movies that everyone living outside India must watch. I have particularly mentioned people living outside India because I’m 100% sure that everyone living in India had already seen it.
Let’s start the countdown…
Table of Contents
1. 3 Idiots
This movie revolves around 3 friends, so does the name came “3 Idiots”. The storyline goes like this – Two friends are searching for their long lost companion. They revisit their college days and recall the memories of their friend who inspired them to think differently, even as the rest of the world called them “idiots”.
The very thing that inspired these 2 idiots has inspired everyone. This movie is directed by Rajkumar Hirani. One of the best director in Bollywood.
This is the movie which has become collectable for many.
It teaches some really good life lessons and expands your mind to think infinite.
The movie is full of fun as it depicts the life of an average engineering student in India.
I’m an engineer and it was so relatable to my college life. The depiction is so real and connected that I was feeling a part of the movie while watching it.
This has been in my collection for almost 5 years and I have watched it numerous times. I highly recommend that you watch it too.

2. PK
Yet another classic directed by Rajkumar Hirani starring Amir Khan.
This movie has changed the minds of millions living in India.
The movie has targeted to break the false beliefs of the people living in India (not only India but people from every country).
The storyline of the movie goes like this – An Alien from the outer space visits earth. This Alien looks exactly like us but asks questions which nobody has ever asked before. The questions are so simple and childlike which carries deep meaning and curiosity.
Each and every part of the movie is filled with entertainment and knowledge.
This movie will surely give you a new way of thinking.
I request you to watch the movie with your mind open and if possible watch it with your family & friends.

3. My name is Khan
This movie is directed by Karan Johar starring Shahrukh Khan (SRK) and Kajol.
They are one of my favourite on-screen couples. And this movie is one of those which are ough to make you numb.
The storyline goes like this – Rizwan Khan, a Muslim from the Borivali section of Mumbai, suffers from Asperger’s syndrome, a form of high-functioning autism that complicates socialization. The adult Rizwan marries a Hindu single mother, Mandira, in San Francisco. After 9/11, Rizwan is detained by authorities at LAX who mistake his disability for suspicious behaviour. Following his arrest, he meets Radha, a therapist who helps him deal with his situation and his affliction. Rizwan then begins a journey to meet US President Bush to clear his name.

After watching this movie, there’s one thing that I would like to say – There are different people living on this planet. Some are good and some are bad. The definition of good and bad is not consistent and it keeps on changing with time by the most powerful people of the world or the people who lure for the power. Every person wears a lens of perception which distorts his/her vision and restricts him to see what’s the actual reality. But then there is another breed of people who are gifted. They are born with a naked vision and see the things as they are without any filter. Rizwan Khan (SRK) is one such soul who will touch your heart for sure.
I would just say that you watch this movie without presuming anything.
Watch this movie for its intent and message and that there is nothing in this world that holds more power than an emotion of LOVE.
4. Jab We Met
Released in 2007, Jab We Met is a romantic drama movie. With real-life love couples of that time being the star cast of this movie added to make this movie a hit.
The storyline of the movie goes like this – A depressed wealthy businessman finds his life-changing after he meets a spunky and care-free young woman. Watch the movie to see how his life takes a turn along with all the masti and comedy on the way.
The movie gave the audience the type of masala they expect from every comedy-drama. Songs add to the beauty of the movie. Each and every song is popular and if you will ever plan to take a survey for the likeliness of the songs in this movie then you will find 9/10 people saying that it’s their favourite.
Jab We Met was a fresh story of its time with pure entertainment showing ways of life.

5. Taare Zameen Par
This movie is directed by Amir Khan himself. Taare Zameen Par questions the very foundation of how this world operates.
This is a one-time movie that everyone must watch.
The storyline of the movie goes like this – An 8-year boy was thought to be a trouble-maker. Nobody tried to understand the real problem of that boy, not even his own parents. Until later, a teacher came into his life. This new art teacher has the patience and compassion to discover the real problems in the boy’s life.
Every part of the movie teaches you a lesson. It expands one’s awareness for the disease called Dyslexia and gives knowledge of how to handle people who are suffering from this disease.
I hope you watch and enjoy all the movies listed above. If you’ve had something to share then I’m all ears. Just comment below with your favourite movies and let the discussion start.
